Summary/Abstract: The translation of A.S. Byatt’s Possession takes the translator through a multitude of literary genres, in a merry-go-round that might leave him baffled and at a loss for words (literally speaking). The novel constantly changes perspective, the point of view from which the story is told is permanently passed around among the main characters. This multitude of perspectives is conveyed to the reader by means of letters, diaries, poems and traditional third-person narration. Therefore, the translation of the novel is a real tour de force for the translator who has to be flexible enough in order to adapt himself to all these multiple variations and switch tonality in the target language as well
