Summary/Abstract: Starting from the idea that linguists have extended the homonymy to other levels of the language, apart from the lexical one, and defined it as an association of some identically pronounced complexes with different meanings, the objective of the current paper is to take into consideration some problems regarding homonymy in Romanian with special reference to the verb – a complex and interesting part of speech – that have attracted the specialist’s attention. We will have in view both the general homonymies (that characterise all the verbs) and the specific homonymies (that occur only with certain verbs and are also used in classifying them). As is the case in other languages, when conjugating, homonymies appear within the same mood and tense, but also between different moods and tenses. The most frequent ones can be found in the case of personal moods (especially – the indicative – the synthetical forms and the compound ones); the cases we have in view are closely related to the groups of verbs (including the irregular ones). Generally speaking, though, the diverse endings, the great variety of mobile affixes and the systematic character of homonymies allow the correct use of verbal forms. Although it remains a grammatical issue, morphological homonymy must be studied in relation with semantics or phonetics as it represents a special case of interdependence between language compartments.
