Summary/Abstract: Regional competitiveness is an obligatory task on the territorial, financial and referential level of voivodships. Because health service can be substantial for developing competitive advantage in the region, the aim of this article is to present the potential which is at regional’s disposal, and specifically local government (represented by the marshal) and local administration (represented by the voivode). Assuming that innovativeness and competitiveness of medical services can be the core of development potential, one should verify organizational, financial and management potential, which in case of highly specialist services is located most often at the hospital treatment level. The rational regional policy needs potential development areas verifaction one of which is health care not only as a medical service, but also as a rapidly developing field of economy on which strategic regional competitiveness can be built. The article presents the analysis of regional potential of medical services and its use for building the sustained regional competitive advantage.
