Summary/Abstract: The punishment for deeds of disloyalty, whatever their nature, was the same: death through beheading and confiscation of the wealth. This tough reprimand determined the traitors to save their life by running away, hoping that they will return as soon as possible in the country, to regain possession of their alienated lands. This means that in most cases errancy was a sequel of boyars’ prior deeds, in tight connection with these, but considered a deed of treason, by denying the Prince’s authority and failing to subject himself to the Prince’s judgment. Already in the 15th century, the "wrong" ones followed the path of errancy on foreign lands, this way of escaping the danger becoming the most frequent deed of disloyalty undertaken but often forgotten by the Prince.
