Summary/Abstract: Taking as a point of departure the theoretical disputes between adherents of the once dominant trends of New Criticism and New Bibliography, Bem analyses the relationship between literary theorists and scholars of editing and textology in the second half of the twentieth century. His goal is to describe the origin of their friction and to identify the contraditctions that accompanied their parallel development.
