Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the changes in the urban development policy in the European Union. It analyzes the strategic and programming documents of cohesion policy for 2014-2020, which relate to the urban dimension. Initiatives strengthening the role of cities and giving them appropriate status in development policy are also indicated
