Summary/Abstract: Popular culture has been dominated by the walking dead. Movies, comics, books, series and computer games are full of them and recent years have brought intensification of interest in this subject. That results to a large extent on popularity of the American TV series The Walking Dead based on the comic book series issued for twelve years. The characteristic feature of this comic is that social context in which the events take place has been shifted to the forefront. It allows to perceive the series as material describing attempts to establish social order made under extreme conditions. Referring to Émile Durkheim’s concept, the author seeks the answer to the question about the type of social solidarity emerging in the world controlled by zombies. In the world presented in the analyzed series there is neither the state nor the government and existence of law becomes questionable. However, in the characters’ everyday life the fundamental need to establish law and social standards which would form the basis of carefully reconstructed community becomes noticeable.
