Summary/Abstract: Agriculture, because of the intrinsic properties of the land factor, is a branch of production exposed to relatively high risk of fluctuations in supply and prices. In most cases, farms passively adjust their activities to changes in market conditions and, as a result, the economic surplus flows to non-agricultural sectors. The aim of the paper is to present the mechanisms that allow the efficient way to reduce risk of fluctuations in the agricultural sector. The selected insurance tools will be described and by identifying practical examples of their use, the advantages and disadvantages of each tool will be highlighted. Work is a review of Polish and English literature and own research topic of the author.
