Summary/Abstract: The male characters of the nineteenth century Romanian boulevard comedy, strongly influenced by the French Comedy, are more likely than women and they can be grouped according to social criteria, more functional than for female characters that are often without a social occupation or whose social status does not count. Still, from the social point of view, the status of most of the male characters is not too representative, the latter being in the middle or in the outskirts of cities (on the one hand, it is the aesthetics of this type of theater that works, on the other hand, it’s the censorship that did not allow ridicule scenic character of the upper class).
