Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the origin of the Antichrist, his nature, as well as his essence based on the chosen fragments of Patristic latin literature. First part of the article speaks about the genesis of the Antichrist. Based on the works of such Church Fathers as St Augustine of Hippo, Tertullian, St Cyprian and St Jerome, three conceptions of the origin of the Antichrist were introduced. First of them presents Antichrist as a human creature, often connected with the historical persons such as for instance emperor Nero. Second conception presents Antichrist as an incarnated satan or satan’s child, and third portrays Antichrist as a peoples community. This part of the article shows differences between perception of Antichrist as an individual person, and many antichrists, often identified with heretics. Next part of the article shows preaching of latin Church Fathers on the Antichrist’s appearance in the world, especially on the time when this appearance is to happen. Last part of the article concerns the nature of the Antichrist. In this part the question of similarities between the nature of Antichrist, and that of satan is being considered.
