Summary/Abstract: The author examines the public - primarily in the field of journalism - activities of Bogoslav Šulek from the 1840s to the 1870s. Šulek was the first professional journalist in Civil Croatia.His journalism was primarly concerned with politics and the State Right issues - the unification of Croatian territories, the relations between Croatia and Hungary and Austria, the realtionship of Croats to other South Slavic and Slavic people, etc. In terms of his views on social questions, Šulek was a liberal progressive, who supported the constitution and development of civil society and the gradual integration of the wider popular masses in public life.
