Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present innovative solutions in commercial banking in the UK. Some of the new banking products used in the British financial practice were shown, e.g.: sharia banking, based on the concept of Islamic banking, the „buy to rent” program and services “drive-thru”. Changes both in the English legislative and banking system were described. Innovations and the innovation process itself were identified, dividing innovations between progressive and radical ones. The article defines the financial crisis, its causes, course and consequences. The conclusions drawn are nothing but the financial crisis lessons. The financial crisis comes in different variations and forms, of which the most dangerous one is the model WW, indicating a high economical instability of a country. Seven stages of the current financial crisis were listed. The conclusions drawn from the analysis of the problem strongly suggest the need to return to a conservative lending policy. It also indicates that traditional banking is again gaining its great importance. We are dealing with a number of already introduced and being currently implemented prudential rules, the beginning of the regulation era and State intervention
