Summary/Abstract: The study analyzes the work of Milos Marten (1883–1917) in reference to Stanis³aw Przybyszewski´s concept of „psychical naturalism“. In the introduction it deals with criticism of Emil Zola´s naturalism and with the use of the analytical method in the arts, in particular in the portrayal of the individual and the „interior life“ (F. X. Salda’s idea of synthetic art and A. Prochazka’s cencept of „psychical art“). The second part analyzes Przybyszewski´s concept of „psychical naturalism“ as well as with negative critical response to Marten´s work (K. H. Hilar, K. Sezima). The last part of the study analyzes Marten´s fiction with a special respect to his aesthetic thinking (Mstitel [The Avenger], Dama se psem [Lady With the Little Dog] and Cyklus rozkose a smrti [Cycle of Delight and Death]). It also compares Marten´s work with the original Przybyszewski´s concept of „psychical naturalism“ and describes the using of this term in literary history in relation to Marten´s work.
