Summary/Abstract: The Five Factor Model is a taxonomy of personality traits, which is originally identified in the United States. After that it is replicated across a wide variety of cultures, suggesting that personality trait structure is universal. The study evaluates the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Big Five Inventory (BFI, John et al., 1991) in Bulgarian sample. The data support five factor structure of personality, and also indicate that BFI has internal reliability estimates ranged from 0,71 for scale agreeableness to 0,81 for scale neuroticism. The correlation analysis reveal significant positive relationships between neuroticism, depression and dysfunctional aspects of perfectionism. The conscientiousness and the extraversion are positively associated with adaptive components of perfectionism and satisfaction in life, and negative with depression. In conclusion, the results shows satisfactory psychometric properties of Bulgarian version of BFI, and it could be useful practical tool for measurement of personality traits.
