Districts changes in the socio- -economic development level in Poland and obtaining EU funds

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to determine the districts changes in socio-economic development level in Poland in the years 2004-2012 and to show these changes with the amount of absorption of funds from the EU budget by districts in 2006-2012. Based on development index (Wr) the socio-economic development level of districts was described. In order to determine the amount of funds obtained absorption index Wa was used which is the sum of all funds obtained by the district from the EU budget in the period per capita. Data source was Local Data Bank prepared by Central Census Bureau. It was found that in the case of 43.3% of the districts in Poland the value of districts development index decreased and for 40.1% increased. According to the typology of districts it appeared that their structure is dominated by those with Wr index decreased in the period and the absorption of the funds from the EU budget was high.
