Summary/Abstract: The article presents the take on philology as seen from the perspective of morality on several levels: historical, professional, as well as axiological (evaluation of literary works characteristic for literary scholars and lack of such evaluation in the research held by scholars in the linguistics). At the end of the article, the author claims that philology – due to its vast historical cultural spectrum – gradually leads its representatives to resigning on spiritual egocentrism, the conviction of the essential value of one’s own culture.
