The development of eco-logistic supply chains as the result of economic and environmental crises

Summary/Abstract: Economic and environmental crises influenced the popularization of ecological ideas at the level of both, individual enterprises and supply chains. The described phenomenon initiated the development of concepts, methods and tools supporting pro-environmental ideas. Apart from the concepts of sustainable development, corporate social responsibility or environmental development, the concept of eco-logistics and eco-logistic supply chains does deserve attention. Due to the fact that the problems of eco-logistics, at the level of enterprises or regions, have already been broadly discussed in the domestic subject literature for the recent several years, the author refers to her own research interests focusing on ecological ideas application in supply chains. The purpose of this article is to discuss the essence of ecological supply chains, to emphasize the specific nature of the occurring processes and to characterize entities constituting their links. The author hopes that the undertaken theoretical considerations, presented in the hereby article, will become an inspiration for the scientific discussion regarding the perspectives of eco-logistic supply chains development in Poland.
