”Woman’s Attractiiveness” in Language. A Language Analysis of Selected Magazines for Women

Summary/Abstract: The analysis of the chosen Polish magazines for women makes one reflect on one of the leading stereotypes typical of woman – to be attractive, fashionable and beautiful at every time and every age. We work on the presumption that the stereotypical image of a woman has an influence on the creation of a woman by the media, especially in individual articles of the analyzed magazines for women. Most of the authors create and describe the image of a woman with the aid of distinctive words concerning typical characterization of physical appearance and visual aspects of woman’s looks. Authors of particular pieces of writing use language constructions to show the woman as a beautiful, stylish and trendy person, they frequently use special words (not typical of the Polish standard), e.g sexy, seksy, trendy, megakobieca, supertrendy, superkobieca and the like. In the text we also refer to overusing the above-mentioned expressions. Next we present uncommon options and kinds of language used to show how we can perceive and describe the fashionable and luscious woman in the media world.
