Summary/Abstract: The article is focused on the key controversies present in the discussions on the concept of sustainable development. They refer to the persisting and too narrow approach towards this particular concept in theory and practice, i.e. almost exclusively in terms of environment protection and the occurring ever bolder attempts to refer to sustainable development as the full-fledged paradigm of development, which is based on balancing its economic, social and environmental aspects along with the clear articulation of its axiological foundations. The main purpose of the article is to provide an answer to the following question – are we aware what exactly we want or should consider? The presented answers are of complementary nature, they are expressed in various language conventions – not only in terms of development aspects, but also arrangements, responsibilities and systems. Several examples of this paradigm “disintegration”, by the kind of “Trojan horses”, have also been provided as present in both, theory and practice of economic science and not just in the actual economy. The discussion was supplemented by the author’s reflections regarding the reasons of the discussed phenomenon and the consequences occurring mostly in the form of systemic imbalance, as well as anti-logic also observed in many other domains and sectors.
