Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to assess the competitive position of seven new EU member states (the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania) and its changes in agri-food trade in the years 2003-2012. An analysis is based on the following trade indices: the Lafay index, the index of revealed comparative advantage (RCA) and the index of intra-industry trade (IIT). The research results show that Poland, Bulgaria and Romania enjoyed the strongest competitive position in 2012 (measured by RCA and Lafay index), whereas the Czech Republic and Slovakia had the weakest position that year. The share of intra-industry trade in agri-food trade was the largest for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and the lowest for Lithuania and Bulgaria.
