Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on anoikonyms / minor place names (names of unsettled objects in the landscape). The names are a testament e.g. to a vanished settlement, to waves of emigration, to former cattle farming, to former mining and processing of minerals. The author shows that the linguistics has what to offer to other fields of sciences and in this way it can contribute to human cognition
