Summary/Abstract: India’s economic co-operation with Nepal, which development aid is an important element of, was originated in the early 1950s. Over the entire Cold War period, Nepal was a key partner for India’s foreign assistance activities. India supported both infrastructure projects and establishment of modern institutions in Nepal. After ten years of long suspension of major foreign aid activities in the 1990s, massive intensificationbegan in 2003, affecting largely all India’s neighboring countries, including Nepal. However, the fact is the rejuvenated cooperation is nearly entirely different to the one during the Cold War period. The paper herein focuses on a change that occurred in terms of India’s development cooperation with Nepal. It examines the scope and quantum of assistance provided, sectorial distribution and indicates criticism and accusation met by India’s aid projects in Nepal.
