Summary/Abstract: The paper presents an assessment of the scale and directions of impact of export structure (by commodity type and geographic region) as a significant determinant of export dynamics in contemporary international trade. The analysis focuses on the highly interesting region of Latin America. The first part of the study discusses the role of the Latin American countries and subregions in the global export. The following sections explore the differences among the regions and countries under analysis in terms of their export dynamics and structures as well as changes therein witnessed in the 21st century, particularly those resulting from export price movements. The findings lead to a general conclusion that a commodity-oriented export structure of a country or region appears to be a significant contributor to its export dynamics in contem porary international trade. The reason behind is the new long-term price relations, observed in the 21st century, which are favourable to commodities
