Innovations as a determinant of sustainable urban transport development

Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this article is to discuss innovations as one of very significant conditions for sustainable development of transport, especially urban transport, as well as to present a brief analysis of efficacy and efficiency of innovations for sustainable development. First, the essence of innovation is discussed as a determinant for sustainable urban transport development. Then, selected issues influencing the efficacy and efficiency of innovations are presented. In conclusions it is argued that the implementation of different innovations is a necessary but not sufficient condition for sustainable transport and some deeper changes are needed, inter alia changes of human mental models.
