Summary/Abstract: Transport accounts for the critical sector in terms of pursuit for sustainability due to the negative externalities generated by transport systems and their users on one hand as well as the positive impact on the social and economic growth and development on the other hand. Various tools have been developed to meet the requirements of transport sustainability including the group of financial instruments, often referred to as economic and market instruments. The paper is aimed at presenting examples of internalising negative externalities with selected financial tools and their effectiveness and efficiency in terms of providing sound basis for sustainability.
