Miłosz and Милош. A fantasmatic autobiography

Summary/Abstract: The article offers a rereading of two texts by Czesław Miłosz: Rodzinna Europa (Family Europe) and Kroniki (Chronicles). Inspired by Maria Janion’s methodological ideas from 1990s., the author reaches for these of Miłosz’s texts which attempt at rewriting the Russian memories of the poet’s childhood. The article discusses various kinds of construction of phantasmic images in the poet’s autobiographical writings, mechanisms of their functioning and the role they play in his reflection on Russian culture.
