Linguistic differentiations of emotionality in Silesian ethnolect

Summary/Abstract: This article is about arrangement necessity of one of the language’s levels – vocabulary – in the context of the discussion about acknowledgment of Silesian ethnolect as a regional language. This is the level of the language the most difficult to describe in regular way, especially when we consider lexical ways of expressing emotions. Vocabulary needs to be arranged and described, to be able to create next written texts on different levels of formality and generality in Silesian. It is crucial from the point of view of didactic publications, especially Silesian abc-books, which are the most severely graded, because they are treated as standard creating and norm building. Description’s difficulty and axiological unsynonymousness of that kind of vocabulary results from the connection between expressiveness and colloquiality (which additionally escapes precise definitions) and texts dedicated to the didactic use may not include forms considered as colloquial or even coarse. Separation of colloquial elements is not easy in Silesian dialect which up to now was almost only spoken, because oral and colloquial forms are inseparably connected. That is why the most urgent task, before more didactic and popular-didactic publications will be written, is to separate in Silesian dialect expressive forms which should be located in low registers of colloquiality, and in this way not suitable for those kinds of texts. This article is an attempt to show difficulties in such description based on apellative names of humans.
