Some peculiarities of the Polish ‘island’ dialect in Siberia

Summary/Abstract: Some phonetic, morphonological, morphological, word-building and lexical peculiarities of the Polish dialect of the village Vershina in the Bokhanskiy district of the Irkutsk region are analised in the article. This island dialect has been functioning in Siberia for more then a hundred years and has developed from the dialect spoken by the Polish settlers who came to the region in 1910 from the south of Poland. Most of the above stated features are related to the typical south-western peculiarities of the mother Polish dialect. Socio-linguistic situation is examined in the article and the examples of the influences of the Russian language on the dialect are given.
