Summary/Abstract: This article gives a brief account of the emergence, meaning and use of the term „student voice“, in several English-speaking countries. Three concrete examples of the research on student engagement as well as several different typologies of the student voice have been presented here. The article pays special attention to the Fielding’s four- fold typology of schools with regard to the mutual relation between the functional and the personal relations among human beings. This typology helps to expose the abuse of the student voice by the high performance institutions of schooling.
