The Importance of Adaptation at Primary School

Summary/Abstract: The article is an overview of the concept of adaptation, school disadaptation and adaptation difficulties viewed as disorders of a child's psychical development. Children who have just started going to school have to face requirements not compatible with their habits as well as new conditions for their activities. Such changes may cause contradictions and hesitations whether they should conform to the new requirements or ignore them and act according to their earlier conventions. Relevant conditions should be provided for the learners' personalities not only to detach themselves from full dependence on others, but also to take responsibility for their own and other individuals' welfare. Science gives a possibility to scientifically determine and diagnose risk factors conditioning the structure of the psychological disadaptation process.
