Financing protected areas in Russia

Summary/Abstract: Russia is the largest country in the world. In the period 1992-2011 there were established 42 national parks and nature reserves (PA) in Russia; their area increased by 73% covering 43 million hectares. Total expenditure on PA (expressed in the prices of 2011) increased by 90% for the analyzed period. The participation of expenditure on PA was from 0.032% in 2005 to 0.04% in 2011 in the expenditure from the federal budget (in Poland 0.0262%). Expenditure for PA increased from 1.90 USD/ha in 2005 to 3.43 USD/ha in 2011.
