Formal Voting at EU Council by Individual Member States: An Analysis

Summary/Abstract: The article describes how an analysis of formal voting at the Council of the European Union may be used in research on individual member states. The existing formal vote analyses are usually about the whole EU Council, highlighting the main trends in Council activities and coalition patterns. A research project focusing on formal voting by a single member state may provide a valuable complement to, and verification of, such analyses. It may also be an interesting source of information about a given member state’s policy on Europe.
