Boris Pasternak's poetry in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The subject of my article is the translation problem from Russian to Polish of poetic composition of the Russian poet, the prose writer, the translator Boris Pasternak. I am interested in the following questions: Does the translator change the poetic world of the original while translating into Polish (the Poem „Creativity definition”), adding individual characters of his own poetry (problematic of deviation from original)? The subject choice has come out of conviction that in the 20th century, especially in the twenties, Boris Pasternak’s creativity was very popular in Poland. According to the Polish translators, for example Edward Balcerzan, Wiktor Woroszylski, Mieczysław Jastrun, Józef Waczkow, and also Russian writers and scientists (Marina Cwietajewa, Jurij Łotman) Boris Pasternak is considered one of the most difficult poets, having his own individual style. How do the Polish translators cope with Pasternak’s poetry? Whether there is a Polish Pasternak? I search for answers on these and other questions, analyzing Boris Pasternak’s poem „Creativity definition” and two translations of this poem by Severin Pollak and by Józef Waczkow.
