Summary/Abstract: In conditions of the economic globalization the food self-sufficiency of the country can be understood as the ability of the total economy, that is both agriculture, food industry, trade, as well as other sectors for covering the domestic demand for the food. The analysis of food self-sufficiency in Poland on the level of the entire agri-food sector and its individual branches proves that Poland is food self-sufficient and Polish producers of food are competitive on the international market. We are self-sufficient first of all in basic branches for the Polish agri-food sector, i.e. meat, dairy, cereal, sugar and confectionery, fruit-vegetable and tobacco. In the past decade our self-sufficiency in the production in these sectors increased, while in the remaining ones it decreased. These changes prove growing specialization of the production of foodstuffs both in Poland and in the world.
