Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the struggle of the military counterintelligence of the Karelian Front against Finnish intelligence during the Great Patriotic war based on the analysis of the wide range of the archival sources from state and departmental archives of Moscow, Petrozavodsk and Helsinki. The author shows two main directions of the military counterintelligence agents’ activity: introduction of its intelligence men and agents into Finnish and German intelligence schools and attempts of the liquidation of the enemy’s intelligence schools. The article points that the first direction was the most successful: the author provides the examples of the introduction of the agents of the Special department of NKVD (from 1943 — Directorate of Counterintelligence «Smersh» of People’s Commissariat of Defense) of the Karelian Front into Petrozavodsk and Rovaniemi schools of the Finnish intelligence. Both sides were taught under the war. From 1943 the Finnish intelligence began to organize «mass escapes of the Soviet prisoners of war», introducing their agents into those groups. The article shows how in these cases the secret agents were managed to be revealed. Special aspect of the military counterintelligence agents’ work — conversation of the enemy’s agents and their further infiltration behind the front line with the task of deep penetration into the Finnish and German intelligence schools. It allowed receiving the necessary information about forthcoming infiltrations of the Finnish and German commando-type reconnaissance groups into the Soviet troops’ home front. The author reveals the reasons of the failure of the Finnish intelligence schools’ liquidation. The material about the interactions between military men and territorial bodies NKVD-NKGB of the Karelian-Finnish SSR on the counteractions of German activities and Finnish intelligence on the Karelian front during the Great Patriotic war is of special interest.
