Summary/Abstract: A report on the first season of the Gogol Theater in Moscow after the revolution by the new artistic director, Kirill Semionovitch Serebrennikov. The author focuses on a series of three premieres: Brothers, The Idiots,and Fear. The plays, based on film scripts addressing social themes by Luigi Visconti, Lars von Trier, and Rainer Fassbinder, comment on the social situation in Russia. The author of the article analyzes each of the performances, examining the extent to which the new concept for the Gogol Center might play an important role in shaping the political dimension of Russian dramaturgy.
