Summary/Abstract: Syncretic coexistence of old and new concepts, notions and images is constantly observed in the dynamic being of folk ideology. The specific relations between them form an especially rich picture and lead to consideration. In order to outline these semantic processes with respect to the notions of the diseased body it is necessary: firstly, to bear in mind the historical changes in folk ideology; and secondly, to correlate the notions about the diseased body with those about the structure of the human body in general. The article is composed of three parts. The first part discusses the development of the ideas about the human body with regard to the folklore conceptual system and the manifestation of spiritual and physical in the individual. The second analyzes the disease, the illness and the diseased body in the context of the common notions about the structure of the human body. In the third part we try to find semantic correspondences between the diseased body and the healing process.
