Summary/Abstract: The essay presents the life and work of hafiz Mahmud Traljić (1918–2002), a well-known Bosnian teacher and the author of some 250 papers, studies, essays and books. The author focuses on the particular lifestyle of hafiz Mahmud Traljić. He asserts that this was a traditional Bosnian alim who lived in the age of modernity and socialism and how felt that his traditional Islamic teaching and his solid tradition were under threat. The author concludes that hafiz Mahmud Traljić did not deal with ideology and theories, but rather wrote two types of texts – one dedicated to describing prominent individuals, usually his contemporaries, and the other on institutions of Islam and Islamic culture in BiH.
