Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to describe the function of intensity accents in Italian and to demonstrate the predictability of their place for those interested in learning this language. I will insist on the function of main and secondary accents and on intonation in a comparative study of French and Italian starting from Alvaro Rocchetti (1980) and AISV researchers’ works (2000). This topic will be approached from both a diachronic and a synchronic point of view. The study shows the relationships existing between prosody, syntax, and meaning.
