Summary/Abstract: A dialogue in the public sphere most often takes the form of debate, which is considered the best way of realizing democracy goals. The debate is connected with the mechanisms of public communication, most of all through the mass media. As a result of various impacts, including mainly the media, the public opinion is shaped. The media impact on the public opinion might contain elements of manipulation, persuasion and propaganda; these all are the variants of symbolic violence. As a result, the public opinion contains a number of stereotypes and myths. This constitutes a considerable challenge for education, which should, among other things, include an effective media education to immunize against manipulation, but also to educate the reflective people.
