The Community of East-Slavonic Cultures. Dmitri Lichatchov’s Research on European Sources of Ancient Russian Culture

Summary/Abstract: In contemporary research on Russian culture the dominant approach denies its European influences. Many researchers claims that has created the specific national character of the Russian remaining a puzzle for Western Europe. The stereotype popularized by supporters of eurasiatism about Russian cultural strangeness was denied by Dmitri Lichatchov, a linguist and ancient Russian historian. The article includes a presentation of the researcher’s arguments covering Old Russian literature, architecture and painting, denying the common assumption about Europeisation of Russia by Peter I in the 18th century.
