Treasure-hunter diary from Belitza village, Middle Rhodopes

Summary/Abstract: During ethnological expedition arranged by ‘Ongal’ Association of Anthropology, Ethnology and Folklore Studies in Belitza, Laki district, in 1999 two notebooks and some sheets were found. They contain the dairy of treasure-hunter Asen Redzhushev. This is a valuable document about very interesting part of Bulgarian folklore – traditions and narratives of treasure-hunting. The purpose of this text is a description of the document and finding typical characteristic of treasure-hunters’ maps. It contains information about natural landmarks and artificial signs (with classification of symbols – after function and type of images) used by treasure-hunters. Rituals connected with finding the treasures and getting the right of possession are also object of description.
