Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the changes in the notion of publicity in the wake of the upheaval in Bulgaria and the new perspectives towards audiences of arts. Alongside objective economic and political changes, increasing heterogeneity in Bulgarian society as well as its multicultural prospects in an increasingly globalising world, bring up new issues about the term “public”, and hence about its correlated terms. Audiences now are becoming a complex conglomeration of social groups, value orientations and marketing strategies. What we have is a mosaic of differences, a real palimpsest of pre-modern and modernistic, post-modern and post-post-modernly constructed communities, implicated as imaginary audiences addressed by the works of art.
