Summary/Abstract: The origins of the United States of America are highly interesting if we are to investigate the relations between the idea of individualism and the idea (the postulate) of the common good. This is because we can empirically discriminate the real processes of creating a society in fact from its very beginning (which is not possible, for example, in Europe). Thus, we can also get to know how certain philosophical as well as religious ideas influenced these processes. The considerations are not only historical. The American society is still the reference point for many societies, and for the European Union too. Hence, I will try to characterize very briefly what it could mean to model the EU on the USA.
