Summary/Abstract: The study is a synopsis of the financial history of the "Tribuna" newspaper, from Sibiu, during the first period of its existence (1884-1895). Until the major crisis from 1895-1896, the paper was financially supported at first by a group of wealthy people from Braşov and Sibiu, then by funds from The National Liberal Party in Romania and from The Romanian National Party in Hungary. When both sources ceased the financing, in 1895, the director, Tit Liviu Albini, used money from "The Iancu funds" (a fund raised for a monument on the tomb of Avram Iancu) to ensure the paper's daily issuance, hoping that subsequent funds from The National Liberal Party in Romania will cover the defalcation. But before the money could arrive, because the editors didn't agree with the leaders of The Romanian National Party in Hungary, they were dismissed from the newspaper and also charged by the authorities for the missing sum. They received fake receipts from Bucharest, proving they would have placed the money in deposit at the National Bank of Romania, and, in time, some members of the National Liberal Party sent the missing amount of money back to Hungary, where they were confiscated by the authorities. For the editors it was a happy ending because, instead of appearing as defaulters they were seen as national heroes who tried to save the money from the hungarian police, by sending them to Romania.
