Summary/Abstract: Torture is a broader phenomenon, both geographically and in its proportions in the social field, reflecting a violation of the right to life and to physical and mental integrity, rights that are both enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, in the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and in other important documents, national and international. In the article, the author examines some torture cases in Romania that have been reported to the European Court of Human Rights.
