Summary/Abstract: The principle of parody is a systemic phenomenon which extends over all narrative genres of children’s folklore and determines to a considerable extent their vitality. Its influence upon three genres of Russian children’s folklore – the horror story, the “happening” (the term is operational) and the anecdote – is considered in the article. Parody is carried into effect on various levels. The modification of the initial text is most often achieved within the frames of the “false construction”. A parodic effect could also be found in texts built analogously to the “false constructions” but with a more distinctly marked dramatic element: e.g. the slow monotonous action could all of a sudden be interrupted by an outcry, while at the same time the narrator seizes the nearby person by the throat, thus arousing fear in him, and laughter among those present. Parody is a device which stabilizes children’s folklore and at the same time reveals the dynamics of the process of creativeness with children by providing the change in form. It is a prolific principle which contributes to the renewal of the children’s folklore repertoire.
