A look over our War Songs until the Balkan War (1912-1913)

Summary/Abstract: There has not been much investigation done on the Bulgarian war song. The author takes it upon himself to consider in the present article one of the most popular Bulgarian war songs created before the Balkan war. He stresses, however, still in the very beginning, that even the range of the concept of war songs has not yet been defined more precisely in Bulgarian folkloristics. The author traces out the line of creation, popularization and development of some songs which mark the basic trends in the genre. He points out their intrinsic musical features, their similarity with and difference from the traditional folklore, as well as the process of “folklorization” of some authors’ songs, etc.
