About One Technique of Building the Image of the Bride in the Wedding

Summary/Abstract: The article studies a specific ritual code – the personages code - showing the changes in the image of the bride in the course of proceeding of the wedding. What is meant is the relationship of the bride with such key ritual personages as the bridegroom, the bride’s mother and mother-in-law, as well as with other ritual personages, specially selected, with whom she performs certain actions: a child, a sister-in-law/a maiden, a brother-in-law. The interaction of the bride with these ritual personages has been followed in the two main sections of her nuptial way: to the home of the bridegroom and back, after the copulation – to the home of the bride’s parents (or equivalent places, different from the home of introduction). The change is followed in the relationship of the bride with the main characters, as well as at the appearance of new ritual personages. The personages code has been interpreted in relationship with the system of ritual actions and the ideas of time and space, on the mythological scale of the wedding. The “technique” investigates helps and is in line with the remaining components of the ritual and with the mythological text, standing at the background of the wedding.
