Educational implications of the dispute over transcendence

Summary/Abstract: The author of the article analyses chosen consequences which, in the perspective of reflection on education, are connected with accepting transcendece of rejecting it. Describing transcendece as a conviction that human life has its meaning outside itself, that there is something additional existing, that human life is directed to something beyond its own - the author submits a proposition that modern, neoliberal perception of the human being and the meaning of their life is characterised by rejecting transcendece. This vision of life is rivalled by - characteristic of the religious perspective - a conviction positioning the meaning of life outside life. Neo-liberal rejection of transcendence and negation of hte Aristotelian idea of "good life" together with the simultaneous concentration on "itslef" undemines the sense of education understood as introducing the young to the mankind's heritage. Rejectong transcendence makes it purposeless to broaden the human horizon both in the space and time dimensions - the whole world seems to be a huge "here and now".
